hi! do you know how many writers are still active in this fandom? approximately, of course. I'm just curious, because now that I see these bingo cards (thank you so much btw), it seems to me that there are a lot more active writers in the fandom than I thought. that's so cool!! (I'd be curious to know that about the active artists too, btw.)

Thankfully, there are quite a bit of authors still writing for fandom. We are so grateful for them, and for all of the ongoing challenges put forth by many in our fandom keep it alive! Flashback: Klainetober 2022 fics

Since we are back in October (and I'm feeling all sorts of nostalgic), I just wanted to reblog and share the old Klainetober 2022 fics that myself and my friend @madas-ahatters-world did last year.

We put them all together in a series called Halloween Harvest - Klainetober 2022. There were 31 prompts - and we do plan to get back to them, but here are the ones we did finish.

It was fun writing these. It was challenging to try to take a stab at horror writing, which isn't usually my thing. These fics were created last year when I first started writing fan fic - so its nice to look back on some old work and see how my style has developed in over a year.

I am a rather big fan of musical theatre. "bitbybitwrites" here on Tumblr is a nod to my A03 pseud : "bitbybit (puttingittogether)"

And that is a nod to a song by musical theatre composer, Stephen Sondheim ( who I've loved since highschool)

Though honestly, now as I think about it, it is also a kind of reflection on my writing style . . .bit by bit I slowly chug along to put together a story. Don't worry readers, I'll get to the end eventually!😂

🧩 ⇢ what will make you click away from a fanfiction immediately?

Oh dear, I have to say bad formatting and basic grammar is a turn off. I'll always give a fic a try for a bit in the beginning, but sometimes repetitive punctuation/spelling mistakes or poor spacing just frustrates me and my brain turns off and I loose focus on the story. Now granted, I think I may be a bit traumatized from editing I had to do for friends back in school - so I'll naturally pick up on those mistakes quickly. I do make allowances for folks where English isn't their first language and they're trying to write in it English - that's hard and I can't blame them for any errors they make. In general, editing is a bitch - I hate it doing myself but I think it's necessary. I think if you feel you're not up for it, definitely reach out to a friend to get them to check your fic for you. As much as AI sucks, grammarly can check your punctuation. I often use it for that purpose only and I just ignore any suggestions it makes to reword bits - but make note of where it claims there's some parts lacking clarity and I go over it myself and re-read it a few times to see if I feel thats true. If I agree, then I re-write those parts over myself. Or even just checking to make sure all your words are spelled correctly, most word processing documents kind of flag that in the beginning . I think sometimes when a fic goes either too descriptive /action heavy or too dialogue heavy my mind may wander as well - again not a direct turn off, but the fic will start to lose my attention. I'll find myself scrolling through and just having the feeling of trying to get through it, instead of really sitting back and enjoying the story. I think great writers are effortlessly able to balance the two: dialogue and action. But it's HARD. It definitely one of the things I try to be concious of when I write and it can be a struggle.
